How effective is chiropractic care for children and babies?

Doctors of Chiropractic have been providing safe and effective care for children for over 100 years. There are several published studies conducted by researchers in Germany, Australia, Denmark, and the USA which confirms the effectiveness of chiropractic for a variety of childhood illnesses.  So if your child is suffering with problems such as colic, bed-wetting, asthma, ear infections or ADHD, give chiropractic a try.

How safe is chiropractic for my child?

Chiropractic is truly one of the safest forms of health care.  Chiropractic adjustments require precision more than force and with children the force required becomes even smaller.  Children in our office usually enjoy their adjustments and rarely experience any pain.  We can honestly say, more kids cry in our office because it’s “not their turn,” then cry because they are getting adjusted!

Chiropractors do not use any drugs or surgery, which often carry high risks and side effects.  Chiropractic is not invasive and does not carry much risk of side effects.  In fact, the risk of chiropractic care is so low, that malpractice for the doctor of chiropractic is only a fraction that of medical doctors even though both are held to the same standard of care.  More than 30 million American families choose chiropractic care.  Come find out what they already know!

Can all doctors of chiropractic care for children?

All doctors of chiropractic are licensed to provide care to infants and children, however some have advanced education in pediatrics. Dr. Velos is board certified in pediatrics and maintains  diplomate status in the ICA Council on Chiropractic Pediatrics.  She sees patients through their pregnancies and has adjusted newborns as young as 30 minutes old.

When should you take your child to see the chiropractor?

When you want to give your child a strong start to lifelong good health, regular chiropractic care can help your child learn about proper nutrition, exercise, posture and how to take care of themselves.  In a world full of drugs, chiropractic gives your family drug-free healthcare choices.   Chiropractic is true preventative health care and we can also care for lots of the bumps and problems along the way.

A child is growing and developing, therefore little things can grow into bigger problems as they get older.  It is important to have a child checked during all the developmental stages.  Getting the baby checked soon after birth can reverse some of the spinal trauma from the birth process.   Your child’s spine will grow about 50% in length during the first year.  Getting regular chiropractic check-ups while a child  learns to sit, crawl, stand and walk can help optimize their development.   As kids get bigger, so do their injuries. We can help with those too.  Whether you are battling asthma or strained ankles, we can be an important part of your child’s healthcare team.

What if my child’s health problem doesn’t respond to chiropractic care?

Our primary obligation is the welfare of the child.  It is our position that doctors in all fields of practice are ethically and morally bound to make patient referrals to practitioners in other fields of healing when such referrals are necessary to provide the highest quality of patient care.

So when there is a contraindication to chiropractic care or there is a need to for the skill of other healthcare professionals, you can be sure we’ll be open and honest with you.
